There are a lot of changes in the travel industry, to be sure. With that in mind, it is my earnest belief that in order to best represent the Brides who come to me for assistance with honeymoon travel, that I need to be the most informed person with whom they can visit – that keeps me vested in knowing what’s going on in the news. For example, I am able to share with new brides:
- 1. The top ten best honeymoon destinations.
- 2. Which beautiful West Virginia resort couples have honeymooned at since 1913.
- That Starting November 4, 2010, Emirates will increase service between Dubai and Seychelles – a 16% increase per week, designed to meet the needs of honeymoon travelers
That Dubai offers history, desert, beachfront, rooftop botanical gardens, waterparks and camel rides.-
The travel industry as a whole is picking up according to the U.S. Travel Association. Travel spending is growing at a rate of 6.2 percent this year, a big improvement from shrinkage of 8.8 percent last year. Growth is expected to continue at about 6 percent annually for the next three years.
-
How to go on a three-week honeymoon with only carry-on bags – to get around all the extra luggage and transport fees!
-
A number of hotel chains are offering “recession busting” wedding packages – many of which include the gown, tux, room and reception, with cake, for up to 20 people.
-
There is an increasing interest in combining the wedding, the honeymoon, and the perfect travel adventure – one extended event!
-
I am passionate about the work I do as a Destination Weddings and Honeymoons Specialist – when planning travel for a wedding or honeymoon, brides shouldn’t leave anything to chance.
Destination weddings are a popular new trend and not something often done without assistance, especially if the couple plan to extend the event to their guest list… the Internet services just don’t seem to have a good grasp on getting quotes and details for groups.
In addition to the changes in the travel industry, and my certification as a Destinations Weddings and Honeymoons Specialist, I work to visit – as much as is possible – the destinations my brides want to visit, to build the relationships necessary to ensure the couple gets the service they expect and deserve. It is the extra relationships I am able to create at these destinations that allow me to book a wedding there and to make sure the couple and their guests get stellar customer service.

Jan Vitale, creating the perfect Wedding and Honeymoon – - one bride at a time; one destination at a time.
Honeymoon travel to exotic places is becoming somewhat the “norm” as destinations weddings and honeymoons are attractively packaged with cheaper fares and ease of travel… Are you considering a honeymoon in Thailand, or perhaps spending those first days of married life sight-seeing Europe? Travel insurance probably needs to be a part of your planning and budget.
Honeymoons are not where you would expect to need healthcare or hospitalization, but in your honeymoon travels you should happen to meet with an accident or require other medical attention, you probably have not budgeted sufficient funds to cover that treatment. Tests, exams, x-rays and suragery could extend to thousands of dollars; international travel insurance is the perfect coverage – even though you will hope it ultimately covers only your peace of mind!
Additional Coverage..
Many honeymoon travelers don’t realize that in addtion to the reimbursement of miscellaneous medical expenses, these same policies also cover a broad array of other expenses. For example:
-
The purchase of emergency items in case of the delay of checked-in baggage on arrival at your honeymoon destination.
-
Expenses included in obtaining a new or duplicate passport should it be lost during your honeymoon.
-
Being compensated for luggage lost in transit.
-
Cost of legal assistance in case your personal items are stolen.
Words of Caution…
Should you take the prudent course of action and secure a travel policy for your honeymoon, exercise caution in knowing what is actually covered and what exeptions to claims might be outlined in the terms of the policy.
Choose a policy that will allow the greatest coverage for your particular honeymoon plans.
Some policies cover particular activities, such as scuba diving or skiing in high mountain areas; a standard policy might not be sufficient.
Don’t hesitate shopping and comparing. Visit with a number of insuranc companies, possible payment options, special conditions and exclusions. If your travels are planned for the United States, make sure to check into the network of hospitals offered by the policy. While you are checking out various companies, see if you can get any information regarding their customer service history; it would be a travesty to pay a little less for the for the policy, only to have a nightmare occur when trying to place a claim.
Read the policy carefully, and have the agent cover anything that is unclear or questionable. Keep your policy number and the company’s number together with other vital documents you need for your honeymoon travel.
I trust this has at least planted a seed about the need for honeymoon travel insurance, and a few considerations you need to check out before you make that final question. If I can help you in any way, let my 30 plus years in the industry be your guide. Email any questions you have to JanVitaleVA@yahoo.com with Honeymoon Travel Insurance in the Subject line.

Planning the Perfect Honeymoon

The task of planning the perfect honeymoon can be daunting, especially if you haven’t traveled much before. I am excited to bring you a series of blog posts that will provide a wealth of information about honeymoon planning, location and tips to help you discover ways to save money, plan the best travel times, and even… knowing how to Travel Lite!
Let’s start by challenging you to print off two copies of the questionnaire and then to check the degree of compatibility the two of you have about something as important as your honeymoon. By asking questions about things you may not even think of looking into, you can ensure your honeymoon will be something you look at for years later as being… perfect.
First, go into this knowing you will most likely not respond to all of the questions identically – and that is ok. Sometimes the ‘negotiation” adds a little spark and interest and in the compromise, you may both experience something you would not otherwise have thought as a possibility.
I would prefer taking our honeymoon:
□ Before the wedding. □ Following the wedding. □ Later, when the “time” is right. □ Later, when we have more money. □ I’d rather not have one.I would like to have the honeymoon planned by:
□ A skilled travel agent or consultant who can help us with all the planning and coordination. □ One of us, but who will “take the reins.” □ Both of us, working together to make it happen.I would like to allocate the following amount to spend on the honeymoon:
□ Under $500 □ $500-1,000 □ $1,000-$2,500 □ $2,500-$5,000 □ $5,000-$10,000 □ $10,000+I would like to be on our honeymoon for:

□ Adventure travel □ Aerobics □ Antiquing □ Baseball □ Basketball □ Bicycling □ Billiards □ Birding □ Bodybuilding □ Boxing □ Canoeing □ Cooking classes □ Concert-going □ Cricket □ Cross country skiing □ Cruising □ Downhill Skiing □ Dirt Biking □ Diving □ Driving □ Extreme Sports □ Fencing □ Figure Skating □ Fishing □ Fitness □ Flying □ Folk Dancing □ Frisbee □ Gambling □ Golf □ Gliding □ Hiking □ Horseback Riding □ Ice Skating □ Inline Skating □ Jet-skiing □ Jogging □ Kayaking □ Marathon □ Motor Sports □ Mountain Biking □ Mushing □ Orienteering □ Parasailing □ Pilates □ Poker □ Polo □ Racquetball □ Rock Climbing □ Roller Skating □ Rowing □ Rugby □ Sailing □ Safari □ Scuba Diving □ Shopping □ Skiing Europe □ Skiing USA & Canada □ Snorkeling □ Snowboarding □ Softball □ Sleigh Riding □ Spa Treatments □ Spectator Sports □ Squash □ Surfing □ Swimming □ Tennis □ Volleyball □ Walking □ Water Polo □ Waterskiing □ Windsurfing □ Wine Tasting □ Yachting □ Yoga □ Other:______________I have always thought about sharing my honeymoon with all the people who are important to me and would love to have friends and family come along.
□ Absolutely! □ Heaven Forbid!Honeymoons are frequently know for the amazing food that is available on cruises and in hotels; I anticipate we will have:
□ Just quick meals from diners and fast-food franchises. □ Taking time to share creating interesting meals for ourselves. □ A step up from fast food, but still taking in inexpensive local restaurants. □ The ambiance of an elegant hotel where the food is included in our honeymoon package. □ The best of the best in local restaurants; I want to try them all! □ Our hotel. I want a honeymoon where food is included in the price. □ Staying in our room and ordering service from the hotel. The days are filled with fun and activity; the nights should be filled with:
